MMIW Beaded Earrings #12
The MMIW Red Hand
A red hand over the mouth has become the symbol of a growing movement, the Missing Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) Movement. It stands for the missing sisters, mothers, daughters, relatives whose voices are not heard. It stands for the silence of the media and law enforcement in the midst of this crisis. It stands for the oppression and subjugation of Native women who are now rising up to say #NoMoreStolenSisters. While this crisis does usually put women and girls first, many of our relatives go missing or are murdered because they are two- spirit, part of the lgbtq community or just different. The red hand is used to honor all of our relatives who have gone missing.
